American Scholars Program


Recruitment and preliminary selection for the American Fulbright Scholar program in Taiwan, as in other countries, is conducted first in the United States by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), in accordance with proposals sent to it by Fulbright commissions and U.S. State Department posts throughout the world. The selected applications are then sent to those commissions and posts for final selection and placement. The Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (FSE) is the Fulbright commission in Taiwan which receives these applications from CIES.

The Foundation for Scholarly Exchange offers several types of grants for American scholars:


1. Lecturers:

Up to six 10-month grants are offered for American professors who are interested in teaching in a field in the humanities or social sciences in a Taiwan university. For information about specific  2009-2010 openings for American Lecturers,, please see 2009-2010 programproposal

2. Researchers:

Up to six awards for American scholars who wish to carry out a research project in Taiwan.


3. Partial:

Scholars who have already secured major financial support from another source may apply for supplementary support and status as a Fulbright scholar. Up to six awards are available in this category.
